Adjacent to the Westmount Library and the Victoria Hall Community Centre, the heritage greenhouses, located in Westmount Park, represent an iconic landmark for citizens.

Objective

The interior environment played a defining role in the project. The concept introduces a discovery pathway woven into a floating ramp that hovers above the plantings, offering an immersive journey through the interior landscape. This design multiplies perspectives while establishing a universally accessible link between the library and the community centre. Features such as sculpted low walls, water play elements, and distinct zones for permanent and seasonal plantings enrich and diversify the overall experience.

The programming was rethought to welcome diverse uses — community gatherings, musical events, botanical interpretation, and ceremonies including weddings — all while preserving the greenhouses’ primary role as a living plant exhibition. Designed to meet high environmental standards, the project integrates eco‑efficient solutions that harmonize heritage value with long‑term sustainability. Together, these interventions reaffirm the greenhouses as a vibrant, multifunctional landmark deeply woven into the community’s social and cultural fabric.
